Pak panel in dilemma on selection for ODIs against Kiwis

KARACHI: The National Selection Committee is facing a dilemma over picking Pakistan squad for the One-day series against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi and Dubai next month, as the Younis Khan captaincy issue is unresolved yet.
Chief selector Iqbal Qasim admitted that they wanted to finalise the squad by October 22 as the series starts on November 3 and the captain and coach normally want a short conditioning camp before every series or tournament.
"But we can't move forward until we know from the Board about whether Younis Khan is going to continue as captain as obviously we have to consult the captain while finalising the squad," Qasim said.
The former Test spinner said another issue confronting the selectors was the availability of pace bowler Mohammad Asif.
"The board has to tell us whether he is cleared to play in Abu Dhabi and Dubai because of his detention case in Dubai last year," Qasim said.
He said Asif had been bowling well and showing good form in the ongoing domestic circuit and the selectors wanted to have him in the side.
Qasim had a meeting with board chairman Ejaz Butt last week in Lahore and is believed to have made it clear that there was no place for Misbah-ul-Haq in the side and the selectors want to introduce young blood against New Zealand to prepare them for more demanding tours later this year.
