KOLKATA: Following a controversy over the signing of Sri Lankan bigwig Sanath Jayasuriya, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has decided to bar foreign players from playing in any local tournaments.
The decision will hence prevent Jayasuriya as well as Thilan Samarawera to play in the local tournaments.
Acting on a BCCI directive, the CAB at its working committee meeting on Saturday, has cancelled the registration of all foreign players who have signed with various clubs.

"A BCCI directive issued in its last AGM has barred foreign players from playing in domestic tournaments. As per the rule, no foreign player will be allowed to take part in any of the domestic tournaments which also includes the club tournaments of the various state associations," said a CAB official.
Recently, both Mohun Bagan and Kalighat had claimed that the former Sri Lankan captain was in their side.
Subsequently, both clubs withdrew the registration, automatically putting an end to Jayasuriya's chances of playing in the CAB league.
Samarawera had signed for Bata Sports Club, while last season Chaminda Vaas had turned up for Mohun Bagan club.
