LUDHIANA: Grandparents of
Monty Panesar, who are residents of Ludhiana, have expressed disbelief over the new controversy surrounding the English cricketer.
Monty Panesar allegedly urinated on bouncers, who had thrown him out of a nightclub in Brighton for misbehaving with women after being drunk. He was also fined 153 pounds for the indecent behaviour.
"These are false allegations against Monty.
He does not even drink alcohol. He is a thorough gentleman and most importantly a Gursikh. Ever since we have heard this news, I and my wife are very disturbed.
Someone is falsely implicating him in the case only to defame him. He was going to be a part of some club after retirement and this could be one of the reasons behind the controversy," said Monty's grandfather Hari Singh Panesar.
Hari Singh further said, "My son Paramjeet Singh is also disturbed over the matter. He told me that he would call me back but he hadn't done that. I just hope that Monty is fine. And I know he would come out innocent after the probe."
Monty's grandmother Manjeet Kaur, 80, who underwent an eye surgery recently, has been left equally disturbed. She said, "My child cannot do anything wrong. No one in our family consumes liquor."
A Spin bowler, Monty plays for Sussex County Cricket Club. The incident outside the Shooshh club reportedly took place on Monday. The club's security officials had asked Monty to leave after a group of women complained that he was harassing them. Panesar then reportedly walked up to the promenade above the nightclub and urinated on the bouncers.
Panesar tried to get away after that but the bouncers caught him after a chase and brought him back to the club. The police was then called and a fine imposed.
