MUMBAI: MIG CC and Parsee Gymkhana clinched the 'A' and 'B Division Kanga League titles on Sunday.
In their final game, MIG shot out Greater Mumbai Police SC for 109, with off-spinner Ankush Jaiswal taking five for 19. The hosts replied by scoring 384 for seven declared, with Siddarth Chitnis (115) and
Kevin Almeida (110) slamming tons.
Interestingly, the man who coached MIG to their first Kanga title in three years is JP Yadav, a former India and Railways all-rounder.
The team is led by former Mumbai player Amit Dani.
Parsee won their maiden crown after 44 seasons — they last clinched the 'B' Division championship back in 1969. Raunaq Sharma did the star turn for Parsee Gymkhana, slamming the first double hundred ever in the league's 'B' Division when he hit an unbeaten 208 (135b, 25x4, 10x6) against Apollo CC. Raunaq added 210 for the third wicket with skipper Vinayak Mane, a former Mumbai opener, who slammed 100 (110b, 14x4) before retiring hurt, as Parsee Gym scored 327 for two declared.
Apollo, in reply, folded for 126 and 79. For Parsee, seamer Nikhil Bagal took four for 51 in the first innings, while former India and Mumbai pacer Avishkar Salvi wreaked havoc in the second, scalping five batsmen for 21 runs.
Parsee Gym will now play in the 'A' Division of the league next year.
In 'A' Division, former Mumbai and Himachal batsman Vineet Indulkar struck 172 (195b, 24x4, 3x6) as DY Patil Sports Academy scored 332 against Cricket Club of India at Khar Gymkhana. Indulkar added 111 with No 11 Nagendra Chauhan to create a record tenth wicket partnership in the league.
Indulkar finished with 586 runs, including three hundreds, in nine Kanga games. CCI, in reply, fell short at 323. Sushant Marathe (105) and
Anand Singh (74) added 139 for first wicket, but DY Patil fought back through seamer Rakesh Prabhu, who took 7- 48.
With Mumbai's batting struggling big time in the Ranji Trophy, in-form Indulkar and Raunaq, who also bowls decent leg spin, do deserve a look-in.
