LONDON, June 5: Graham Ford, prime contender for the job of India coach, on Tuesday had his passage further cleared with Kent County Cricket Club permitting him to hold discussions with the BCCI.
The English first-class side, with whom South African Ford is currently Director of Coaching, said they hoped that he would honour his contract with them which runs until next year.
"Graham (Ford) has a contract with Kent until the end of the 2008 season ... we have allowed him the opportunity to travel to India to find out more about the role (of India coach). Graham has done a fantastic job for us and needless to say we very much hope he will stay with the club," Kent's Chief Executive, Paul Millman said in a statement.
The BCCI has invited Ford, a former South Africa coach, and former England off-spinner John Emburey for discussions with its Special Committee in Chennai on Saturday.
Ford is reportedly the favourite choice of the senior members of the Indian team.
