NAGPUR: Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) continues to have services of professionals and this time they have chosen the Karnataka youngster
Ganesh Satish for the next Ranji Trophy season.
Since restarting taking the services of professionals, which they stopped during the regime of Shashank Manohar, VCA had most preferred experienced players like Sairaj Bahutule, Shiv Sundar Das,
Hemang Badani and Rashmi Ranjan Parida.
However, this time there will only be one professional.
TOI had reported earlier this year that VCA won't continue to the services of Hemang Badani and Rashmi Ranjan Parida, who were part of the squad last year.
While the contract hasn't been final yet, sources said it's only the formality. "He is one of the finest talents in the country. Being part of competitive side like Karnataka and having performed well for them over the years, we couldn't have asked for a better professional," a source told TOI.
Satish, on the other hand, is excited to take the new role. "I have played against Vidarbha in the last two years and they competed well. In fact, we had to fight for an innings lead when we played in Nagpur last year. They are a growing side with many talented youngsters. I am quite excited to be part of Vidarbha and hoping to do well as a team next season," 26-year-old Satish told TOI.
Satish has made 2504 runs at an average of 43.17 with the help of six centuries for Karnataka and South Zone. He has been integral part of the Karnataka for the last few years and has scored in the crunch situations.
His 117 against Maharashtra and 230-run stand with KL Rahul in the last year's Ranji Trophy had almost clinched the championship for the southern side.
"The facilities and infrastructure is great in Vidarbha and I am looking forward to my stint. Since their promotion in the Elite Division, Vidarbha have done well as a team," Satish, a former India Under-19 player, said.
VCA has made a lot of changes this year. Former Mumbai captain and India pacer Prasas Mhambrey has replaced his ex-teammate Sairaj Bahutule as a coach, while trainer Suhas Pawar has also rejoined the team after three years. Satish is currently playing in Chennai League and he will join the team after the league finished. He is expected to play Bapuna Cup in September.
