KARACHI: Former Test captain Intikhab Alam is being tipped to become Pakistan coach for next month's One-day series against West Indies in Abu Dhabi, following Geoff Lawson's sacking on Friday.
Alam could be made temporary coach as a board official said that a permanent coach would be named at the governing body meeting to be held in third week of November.
Intikhab said he had not been informed about any appointment as yet but if an offer was made to him he would consider it as he was keen to serve Pakistan cricket.
Pakistan board sacked Lawson although the Australian still have eight months left to complete his two-year contract with the national team. He will be paid three months compensation for his early dismissal.
Sources in the board said that Lawson had been sent his termination letter and compensation cheque by the board but he had returned the cheque.
"Apparently he feels the compensation amount is not according to his contract with the board," one source said.
Lawson refused to say anything insisting he was still under contract with the board and would speak later on.
"He is fuming at the way he has been treated by PCB and you can expect fireworks from him when he gets his compensation dues," one source close to the Australian said.
The decision to sack Lawson came hours after Lawson had finally got an audience with the PCB Chairman Ejaz Butt.
"Indications are that things didn't go well in the meeting," one source said.
After the meeting, Lawson returned to the national academy and was preparing to have a net session with Salman Butt and Kamran Akmal when some media people approached him for his comments leaving him surprised.
