KANPUR: India's former Test captains were felicitated by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) on the occasion of the country's 500th Test at the Green Park Stadium on Thursday. State governor

Ram Naik

gave away shawls and plaques to 10 ex-captains including Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Kapil Dev, Krishnamachari Srikanth, Ravi Shastri, Mohammad Azharuddin, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Anil Kumble and MS Dhoni. The loudest cheers from the crowd, though, were reserved for Tendulkar, who featured in 200 of the 500 Tests played by India.

In a laudable gesture, the UPCA also honoured former women's team captains. Some of the most well-known faces of women's cricket - Shanta Rangaswamy, Daina Eduljee, Sandhya Agarwal and Anjum Chopra - were present for the ceremony. UPCA gave away 12,000 special T-shirts to spectators as souvenirs. They also distributed 500kg of ladoos to school children.
