KARACHI: Legendary Pakistani batsman Haneef Mohammad will get the 'Lifetime Achievement Award' at the Castrol Asian Cricket awards here on Friday, the organisers announced on Monday.
The honour would be bestowed on Haneef, a former captain, for his significant contribution to Pakistan and international cricket. The first ever Asian Cricket Awards will honour and recognise the best of Asian Cricket performances in batting, bowling and fielding.
"The lifetime achievement award is being given as part of its commitment to recognise cricketing excellence in past and present eras," an organiser said.
The original 'Little Master', Haneef Mohammed scored 3915 runs, including 12 hundreds, with an average of 43.98, from 55 Test matches.
His moment of glory and history came in 1958/59 at Port of Spain in the West Indies when he scored his memorable 337 and also made 499 runs which remained the highest individual first class score until Brian Lara broke it in 1994.
The Asian awards will honour and felicitate Asia's best cricketers on a biennial basis across all three formats of the game, Test cricket, One-Dayers and T20 International and are based on the Castrol Performance Index, a comprehensive points system which takes into consideration batting, bowling and fielding performances of each player against all teams in all international matches, in all three formats.
In the running for the awards in the first year are Younis Khan, Mohammed Yousuf, Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir, Misbah Ul Haq, Shoaib Malik, Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Chaminda D'Silva and Sanath Jayasuriya.
