Gujarat-1 will take on Saurashtra-1 in the final of the G1 Reliance One-day Tournament. In the first semifinal, Saurashtra-1 defeated Baroda-2 by 79 runs, while Gujarat-1 defeated Saurashtra-2 by a massive 227-run margin in the second semifinal.
Batting first, Gujarat-1 put on 348 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Skipper Parthiv Patel led from the front with a hard-hitting 86, followed by
Manpreet Juneja who finally found some form for a well-compiled 84.
Upcoming youngster Himalay Barad scored 58 and Ruzul Bhatt continued his fine run in this tournament with another quickfire 30.
In reply, Saurashtra-2 just couldn't handle the pace and spin combination of Kamlesh Thakor, Ruzul Bhatt and Akshar Patel and were bundled out for a paltry 121 in 34 overs. Thakor and Bhatt picked up three wickets each for 27 and 31 runs respectively while Akshar Patel picked up two wickets giving away 26 runs.
Earlier, having elected to bat first, Saurashtra-1 scored 267 runs in 49.6 overs. The opening pair of
Sagar Jogiyani and Bhushan Chauhan gave the team a solid start and put on 53 runs for the first wicket before last match’s centurion Jogiyani was out for 29.
Sheldon Jackson then joined Chauhan and the duo put on 100 runs for the second wicket. Bhushan scored 64 runs off 83 balls with five hits to the fence and Sheldon made a handsome 69 from 74 balls with five fours and two sixes. All-rounder Chirag Jani made a quickfire 42 runs off 42 balls. Rishi Arothe was the most successful bowler for Baroda-1 picking four wickets.
Baroda-2 was off to a bumpy start losing opener Saurabh Wakaskar in the second over itself. But the other opener
Dhiren Mistry scored 45 and added 84 runs for the second wicket with Shatrunjay Gaekwad. But after that Baroda-2 started losing wickets at regular interval and were bowled out for 188 in 43.1 overs. Left-arm spinner Dharmendra Jadeja was again the most successful Saurashtra-1 bowler picking three wickets while Dhruv Mankodia bagged two wickets and Balkrishna Jadeja, Chirag Jani and Rajen Panchal pocketed one wickets each.
