AHMEDABAD: Nothing is going well for Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) for the last few years. In 2011-12 season, GCA lost two of its talented bowlers when
Siddharth Trivedi and
Harshal Patel deciding to quit. While Trivedi went to Saurashtra, Patel made a dynamic debut for Haryana after running through Karnataka and Rajasthan with consecutive eight-fors in the quarterfinal and semifinal that year.
Now, two years later, Gujarat is set to lose some more experience in form of
Niraj Patel and Bhavik Thakkar. In Niraj, Gujarat has a man who has been playing since 1997-98 and has 92 First Class matches behind him. His move to
Assam means a void in the middle-order and extra pressure on Gujarat skipper
Parthiv Patel who has been getting help from his deputy in many key ties.
Making matters worse is departure of another middle-order bat Bhavik Thakkar who has been holding the fort in lower middle-order for around 10 years now. While Niraj wanted to explore new avenues, Bhavik was disappointed with the way GCA dropped him without giving him a chance last season. Whichever way, departures to two veterans means GCA further losing its warriors and putting not only Parthiv but the whole team under tremendous pressure.
