Ganguly retained as CAB cricket development committee head
KOLKATA: The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on Wednesday retained their star-studded cricket development committee led by former India skipper Sourav Ganguly even as it met only twice in previous two seasons with little success.CAB supremo JagmohanDalmiya informed that Ganguly would continue to be the chairman of the committeethat also stars yesteryears cricketers Arun Lal, Ashok Malhotra and PranabRoy."The committee did not meet much in the last two years. It's nota healthy thing. They all were busy with their respective commitments, but thatdid not mean the committee was neglected. It is here to work and it can givetremendous results," Dalmiya said after the season's first working committeemeeting.Back from his commentary assignment in England, Ganguly whorepresents Barisha SC at the working committee, was conspicuous by hisabsence.Dalmiya further announced that the proposed new academy, to be named as Bengal Cricket Academy, will be opened in Kalyani on September 4."This will be the first academy in the state," Dalmiyasaid.There was a surprise inclusion of Jeet Banerjee, who heads acity-based sports marketing firm, into coaching sub-committee.
Ghei,a three-time winner on the Asian Tour, then began his second round and succumbedto a disastrous start as he went four-over after four holes.However,the 42-year-old staged a terrific comeback by going seven-under over theremaining 14 holes to finish round two with a solid three-under69."I enjoyed a good run of birdies on the second nine of the firstround in the morning that helped me finish on top of the leaderboard," Gheisaid."I chipped-in for birdie on the second and landed it within 10feet and two feet on the fourth and fifth respectively to set up birdieputts."I felt mentally drained towards the beginning of round two asI did not have much time between the two rounds. As a result I dropped as manyas four strokes in the early stages of round two. But I did really well fromthere on and managed to pull it back to three under for the round," addedGhei.Manav Jaini and Om Prakash Chouhan fired identical scores of 69and 68 in round one and round two respectively to be placed joint second atseven-under 137.Himmat Singh Rai and Shamim Khan were in tied fourthat five-under 139.
