CHENNAI: The National Cricket Academy (NCA) is looking at freelance coaches at the expense of round-the-year staff in an effort to cut costs.
In the NCA committee meeting that took place on Monday, it was decided that the current resident pool of six coaches and six-prong support staff at the academy will be pruned to three coaches, two physios and one trainer.
"We are looking to form a pool of coaches who will be like freelancers. They will come at the NCA when a camp is on and work with the boys," a source told the TOI.
The
BCCI bosses feel that the Rs 5.5 crores annual budget is too high and "it's imperative to cut costs."
The three who will carry on being the resident coaches of NCA are Bharath Arun, D. Nanavathi and coaches' instructor Kinjal Suratwala. The two physios are Ashish Kaushik and Nitin Patel while the trainer is Sudarshan.
