He said so because the fact that Gujarat is searching beyond the likes of Nari Contractor, Rusi Surti, Jesu Patel, Dhiraj Parsana, Deepak Shodhan and Parthiv Patel to take Gujarat's name to national level.
On the other hand, the other two teams from the state - Saurashtra and Baroda have churned out Indian stars with the Pathan brothers representing Baroda and Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravindra Jadeja from Saurashtra making quick progress in the national team.
Salim points out that it's not the dearth of talent that is hurting the state's progress at the national level. "Gujarat has a lots of talent but that is not enough," he said adding that a pro-active association that looks after their players in every possible way will make the difference.
"It was very different during my days. We had R K Patel (former BCCI president) who took great care of the players but its not the same now," said the southpaw. "These days, president are not the same as they are not involved that much," he added.
