Pakistan are on the verge of their first Test victory against Australia in 14 years after restricting the hosts to a slender 80-run lead with two wickets in hand after three days of the second Test at the SCG. The Australians went to stumps at 8-286 with Mike Hussey unbeaten on 73 alongside Peter Siddle on 10.

Experienced leg-spinner
Danish Kaneria (4-117) did most of the damage removing Marcus North (two), Brad Haddin (15) and Mitchell Johnson (three) after tea as Australia lost 5-87 in the final session of the day.
Worryingly for Pakistan, Kaneria had to be chaired off the field late in the day with severe cramp in his left leg. If the visitors complete their day-four run chase successfully they will even the series at 1-1 heading into the third and final Test in Hobart starting on January 14.
Having resumed at 3-199 at tea, the hosts' already slender chances of victory were dealt a major blow when Mohammad Asif (1-44) trapped Michael Clarke in front of his stumps for 21 in the sixth over of the session.
