CSA to ban ICL recruits from international, domestic cricket

DURBAN, September 30: The South African Board will not only ban players joining the rebel Indian Cricket League from playing for the country but will keep them out of the domestic league as well.
Cricket South Africa today said it had made its stand clear that those joining the Indian Cricket League would be regarded as rebel players.
"As such they will not be allowed to play in our domestic competitions," CSA CEO Gerald Majola said.
Nicky Boje, Andrew Hall and Lance Klusener are prominent among the South Africans who have signed lucrative deals with the Essel Group venture.
Majola added that the Indian Cricket League was not recognised either by the BCCI or the ICC.
"We view them as rebels. They have joined a breakaway organisation. The decision is final that they may not play any more cricket in South Africa under the banner of the CSA," the CEO was quoted as saying by the 'Beeld' newspaper.
He, however, said it was still not too late for these players to return to the fold if they cancelled their contracts within the next few weeks.
"But once they have played even one game in the ICL tournament, it's over and they will never be allowed to play in South Africa again."
His statement comes at a time when it was rumoured that all-rounder Shaun Pollock may also join ICL after being dropped for tomorrow's first Test against Pakistan in Karachi.
Pollock has subsequently said he would not join ICL although he was approached to do so about four months ago.
The veteran said he would rather work hard to get back into the South African team.
