NAGPUR: Two and half sessions, that’s all Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) XI required to bowl Dinshaw’s XI twice and won the match by ten wickets in their opening tie of the Bapuna Cup here in Nagpur.
The wicket at Vidarbha Cricket Association’s Jamtha stadium wasn’t an easy one to bat on. However, left-hander Praful Waghela, in company of lower-order, showed his Vidarbha counterparts how to bat on these wickets scoring a purposeful 74 (141b, 5x4) to help Mumbai make 218 in the first innings.
Javed Khan (32 not out, 2x4, 3x6) too played useful hands down the order to help Mumbai cross the 200-run mark.
The 134-lead proved decisive in the end as Dinshaw’s XI managed exactly 134 in their second innings against some spirited Mumbai bowling. Swapnil Salvi hit Dinshaw’s XI skipper Shalabh Shrivastava’s third ball for four to complete the formalities and ensured a well-deserved three-day rest before an all important match against strong Bapuna XI on Friday.
Left-armer Ankit Chavan was the hero for the visitors bagging six wickets for 48 runs. With pitch offering variable bounce, all Chavan needed to bowl on right areas. The
Rajasthan Royals spinner did exactly that and Dinshaw’s XI succumbed to his guile. Four of the top six Dinshaw’s XI batsmen got the starts but failed to kick on. Oninder Singh also chipped in with two wickets.
