CHANDIGARH: Amritsar folded up for 192 in 81 overs against Chandigarh in the first match of the ongoing Punjab Inter-district U-22 Cricket Tournament at Amritsar on Tuesday.
At the close of play, Chandigarh were 17 for no loss in 12 overs. Earlier, Amritsar opted to bat first, their decision boomeranged as their inform batsman Shivlove was trapped by Sidharth Kaul for 5 runs with teams total reading 5 for 1 and then a second wicket partnership 68-run between Rohan Marwaha and Sharad Lumba took the total to 73 before Rohan Marwaha was cleaned up by Gurpreet Singh for 34 off 107 balls inclusive of 5x4 and 2X 6.
The other contributions came from Sharad Loomba (34), Aman Bawa 31 and Arush (33). Amritsar lost their last three wickets in the span of 11 balls without any addition to the total 192.
For Chandigarh,
Gurinder Singh (5/57) and Gurpreet Singh (2/24) were the main wicket-takers.
In the second match played at Dhruv Pandove stadium at Patiala, Mohali opted to bat after winning the toss. At one stage they were 121 for 6 in 42.5 overs agaisnt Patiala then a seventh wicket partnership of 211 runs between Gurkirat Mann and Birkanwar took the total to 332 in 88.4 overs when Gurkirat Mann was caught by Mohindra of Jeewanjot after scoring 136 runs off just 141 balls laced with fourteen boundaries and one towering six.
Gurkirat scored his second consecutive century in this tournament. His partner Birkanwar was next to go when he was caught by Chawla off Jeewanjot for 92 studded with seven fours and one six. Mohali were 373 for 8 in 95 overs at close of play.
For Patiala, Mohit Mahindra, Amrinder Singh and Jeewanjot Singh scalped two wickets each. At Ludhiana, Jalandhar won the toss and opted to bat first. The decision of their skipper Pargat Singh backfired as Jalandhar were reduced to 20 for 6 in 13.3 overs against Ludhiana. Jalandhar innings finally folded at 62 for all in 24.4 overs.
The last three wickets fell at a total of 62 runs in a span of eight balls. Ludhiana skipper left arm medium pacer Deepak Bansal (4/28) and right arm medium pacer Baltej Singh (2/11) ripped through Jalandhar batting line up. The match started 1 hrs and 50 minutes late. Sidharth Sharma with 34 runs was the only Jalandhar batsman to enter double figures. In reply, Ludhiana were 36 for 2 in 18 overs at the draw of stumps.
