JAIPUR: Life's good for
Ben McDermott. The 19-year old wicketkeeper-batsman, who was recently a part of Australia colts' team during their tour to India, has now been handed a rookie contract by Brisbane Heat for this year's Big Bash League.
The son of Australia's bowling coach and former speedster
Craig McDermott, Ben has been quite impressive at the domestic circuit too. And now, keeping his performances in mind, the Heat have handed him a rookie contract for the League that starts from December 17.
Interestingly, Ben's elder brother Alister, who is a fast bowler is also a regular member of the Heat.
This certainly will come as a big boost for the young Australian stumper, who also toured with George Bailey's team during the ODI series against India earlier this month. With the likes of
Greg Chappell speaking highly of the young lad, it would be interesting to see how the young member of the McDermott family performs in the big league.
Though he will play at the U-19 Queensland team for the national championships, Ben will practice with the Heat to prepare himself. "It's certainly an exciting opportunity," an elated Ben told The Times of India.
Having proved his mettle at the ground level, young Ben would now hope to follow father's footsteps donning that Baggy Green!
