JAIPUR: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (
BCCI) has gone ahead and formed an ad-hoc body to run the game in Rajasthan.
Although an official announcement is yet to be made, former cricketer and NCA director
Brijesh Patel will be the chairman of this committee, as per sources. Jaipur-based cricket administrator Amrit Mathur is likely to be the convener.
BCCI secretary
Sanjay Patel is expected to be an ex-officio member.
On Monday, Patel, along with Mathur and BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chowdhary met the state government's chief secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and sports secretary JC Mohanty. Even though the members of the proposed committee were tight-lipped, sources said that they had placed a few proposals to the two officials.
They also discussed the cricketing activities in Rajasthan. Patel indicated that the meetings were positive, refusing to comment further.
The BCCI had banned the Rajasthan Cricket Association following Lalit Modi's election as its president.
Following the decision, the BCCI had also shifted
IPL matches out of Jaipur. However, it has consistently maintained that cricketers from the state would not suffer.
Following the suspension,
Pankaj Singh was named in the India squad for the ongoing tour of England and Deepak Chahar was included in the Emerging Players side.
The BCCI has said that the proposed ad-hoc committee will ensure that cricketers and cricketing activities do not suffer in the state.
Mehmood Abdi, deputy president of the RCA said on Monday that once the ad-hoc committee is officially declared, they will take appropriate legal action.
"That can include filing FIR against the ad-hoc committee members. Such a committee will be illegal as per the state's Sports Act and we will initiate a case against it," Abdi said.
