CHANDIGARH: Board President XI will take on West Zone in the final of the Central Revenue Sports Board (CRSB) Invitation Cricket Tournament at sector 16 cricket stadium on Friday. Board President XI beat West Zone by two runs to make it to the final on Thursday.
Batting first, Board President XI made 154 for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Man-of-the-match Rikin Chauhan (64; 58 b) was the top scorer.
Jay Desai also scored a fine half-century in just 38 balls. While Rikin played cautiously in the beginning and then cut loose later on, Jay was in attacking form as he went hammer and tongs right from the beginning.
Both the batsmen played aggressive game and gave the bowlers harrowing time. Rikin played the sheet anchor as he held the innings together for most part of the day.
For Chandigarh Zone, Harmeet Singh Bansal (2/30) yet again turned out to be the most successful bowler by scalping two wickets and bowling a miserly spell. Madan Lal (2/45) was another bowler who kept the batsmen on toes. He scalped two wickets to restrict the batsmen a little bit.
In reply, Chandigarh Zone could only reach 152 for the loss of seven wickets in allotted 20 overs. Gurinder Singh came up with a fine half century (50; 42 b) with a strike rate of more than 100. Simrat also made run-a-ball 35 in 37 balls. Rest no batsman could stay long at the crease and fell cheaply. As a result, they fell short of two runs to win the match.
For Board President XI, Rohit Dahiya was the most successful bowler as he took three wickets by giving away just 17 runs. Rohit played a key role in BP XI win. Jay Desai (1/21) also scalped one wicket. In the end, Board President XI won by two runs to make a place in the final.
