I will follow BCCI's instructions on SLPL: Yadav
NAGPUR: Umesh Yadav may not have clicked in IPL 4 but he is still one of the most sought after cricketers. The Vidarbha pacer has now signed on with Sri Lankan Premier League (SLPL) along with several other Indian cricketers. The 23-year-old says he will wait for instructions from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for participation in the league.
"It would be a good opportunity for me to play in SLPL. Sri Lankan batsmen are naturally aggressive so it would be a challenge for bowlers to bowl in those conditions. However, I will follow BCCI's instructions on how to go about it," Yadav told TOI.
According to a report in a Sri Lankan cricket website, 12 Indian cricketers, including the likes of Munaf Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin, are expected to feature in the first edition of the SLPL. This tourney is scheduled to commence from July 19.
"Many Indian youngsters have signed with SLPL and it would be a good exposure for all of us. I was there last year as a nets bowler, so I know the conditions there. But Twenty20 is a different ball game. Also, it would be a good opportunity to catch up with friends like Tillakaratne Dilshan and Farveez Maharoof. I have learnt a lot from them," he said.
The other Indian players who figure in the list posted by the website include Praveen Kumar, Dinesh Karthik, Irfan Pathan, Manish Pandey, Manoj Tiwary, Paul Valthaty, Ravindra Jadeja, Saurabh Tiwary and Vinay Kumar.
Unlike last edition's IPL, where he emerged as one of the finds of the tournament, Yadav couldn't deliver this year. He was also ignored for the West Indies tour. "Yes, I could have done better but that's part and parcel of the game. I am in a team which has seven fast bowlers, so competition is very very tough. One bad match and you are out. If you see, none of the seven pacers in our squad has played all the matches. It would have been nice had I got more matches, but no complaints," Yadav said.
