LeBron James has officially joined the E1 Series World Championship, a high-profile all-electric race boat competition. Tom Brady, who won the event last year, is one of the biggest names in the sport. Renowned Hollywood star Will Smith who has also been a team owner in the series, jokingly warned James not to let Brady and artist Marc Anthony "bully" him in the races. In response to Smith's playful advice, James shared his thoughts on Instagram while gearing up for the competition.
“Yessir! Appreciate the welcoming and the lookout on the bullies too! Haha. LETS GOOOOO!!!” the Los Angeles Lakers legend responded to Smith.
James’ team, Team AlUla, is set to debut at the E1 Jeddah GP on Saturday. The Lakers star has been a sports enthusiast and he has shown his interest in various sports over the years. With over a massive $1 billion net worth (according to Forbes), he has the luxury to invest in any sports of his liking including the E1 series.
“As a lifelong fan of sports and competition, the opportunity to own an E1 team that represents such a high level of innovation in sports is incredibly exciting,” James said of joining the E1 series as a team owner (per Forbes).
He added, “E1 is a new type of global competition that’s revolutionizing water racing, and I’m proud to be at the forefront of its expansion in season two.”
This weekend, the UIM E1 World Championship will bring some of the biggest names in sports to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Celebrities including Tom Brady, Rafael Nadal, Didier Drogba, Will Smith, Virat Kohli, and LeBron James will compete in the electric powerboat racing series. The qualification race and the rest of the event will take place on Friday and race day on Saturday. It also marks the second edition of the event in Jeddah. The future races are scheduled in Doha, Monaco, Lake Como, and Miami later this year. In 2024, seven-time Super Bowl champion Brady’s team won the first-ever UIM E1 World Championship in 2024.
