Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is listed as “questionable” for his team’s upcoming game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Curry’s involvement remains uncertain as he is currently dealing with a right thumb sprain on top of his existing knee injuries. Curry’s latest game against the Cavaliers showed us enough to know that the 36-year-old wasn’t comfortable on the court.
The Cavaliers got away with a 115-93 blowout loss thanks to Curry not playing up to his usual levels. Steph recorded 11 points that game and shot an abysmal 4-14 from the field. Curry was also ineffective from the three-point line and only made three out of his 11 attempts. This was a game that won’t live long in the memory of Curry fans. It’s not every night that the greatest shooter to pick up a basketball has a bad night on the court.
However, performances like these have been becoming more and more common as Steph begins to age. The Warriors guard even dropped an embarrassing two-point display earlier this season. It goes without saying that if Curry was playing up to his usual levels, the Warriors would’ve been able to maintain their splendid 12-3 start to the 2024/25 NBA season.
Jonathan Kuminga has often picked up the slack in Curry’s absence and is averaging 16.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. It is worth noting that Kuminga is putting up these impressive numbers despite coming off the bench in most games. Unless Curry elevates his level of play, the Warriors might just have to move Kuminga to the starting five to give the Chef some relief on offense.
Steph has been dealing with multiple injuries and the fact that he is double-teamed on almost every possession doesn’t help his game. If things continue the way they have, Curry might not get the rest he needs until the All-Star break. Hopefully, that doesn’t end up being the case because the Warriors cannot afford to lose Curry regardless of what kind of form he’s in. If he does play against the 76ers fans can expect a good performance from Curry. In 24 games, the Chef has consistently put up 23.6 points, 6.2 assists and 4.8 rebounds against Philadelphia.
