“We need to deport Brooks back to Canada”: Fans react to Dillon Brooks' controversial labelling of LeBron James as a “Social Media Junkie”
Dillon Brooks, NBA’s most notorious instigator, has returned to his favorite target, LeBron James. Brooks recently sent shockwaves through the basketball world by launching a pointed verbal assault on LeBron James, questioning the veteran superstar's focus and professional priorities. In a series of comments that have since gone viral, Brooks didn't just critique James’ game, he aimed at his lifestyle, explicitly calling him a "social media junkie" and suggesting that his online presence has become a distraction from the sport itself.
The friction between the two could be seen in the Phoenix vs Lakers last match, where Dillon Brooks finished the 2nd quarter with a dominating dunk and celebrated by imitating LeBron James’ celebration. He showed that he’s here to fight and doesn’t care who’s standing in front of him. But things have escalated as Brooks has once again ruffled some feathers with his comments.
The Suns hosted the Lakers at PHX Arena on December 15, where the guests took away with them a close victory by 116-114. Brooks is no stranger to the spotlight that comes with "poking bears,” but sometimes this energy converts into a straightaway ejection from the game. During the 4th quarter, with just 13 seconds left on the clock, Brooks hits a three, giving Suns a one-point lead, only to get ejected right after that due to the brawl with LeBron James, which earned him his second technical foul of the match. Brooks didn’t address any questions post this game, but on Wednesday, he made comments that have left fans baffled.
As reported by Atlantic, Brooks feels LeBron James receives favorable treatment. He also commented, “He’s (LeBron James) a social media junkie, he’s all over the socials, so he sees what I’m saying… he gets in his moods and I’m all for that. I wish we let him shoot that shot…that sh*t would’ve been an airball."
In the aftermath of these comments, fans are not happy. One fan commented, “so he skips the media availability immediately after the game and starts to talk about LeBron 3 days AFTER the game?”
A second fan wrote, “Hit a clutch 3 and then get ejected right afterwards is such a Dillon Brooks thing to do.” A third fan wrote, “‘James playing the victim’ Story of that big queen's career.” One fan even went as far as to comment, “We need to deport Brooks back to Canada.”
Another fan jokingly commented, “I’m starting to think they don’t like each other.” Well, to be honest, everyone is getting the same vibes.
The unshakable legacy of LeBron James
While the "social media junkie" label is a fresh jab, LeBron James has spent over two decades navigating the scrutiny that comes with being the face of the NBA. James has famously used platforms like Instagram and X to build a global business empire, but his supporters point to his unprecedented longevity as proof that his off-court interests do not hinder his performance.
For James, the response to Brooks typically comes via a dominant box score rather than a press conference rebuttal. Nevertheless, Brooks' rhetoric adds another layer of tension to the twilight of James’ career as younger challengers continue to use increasingly personal tactics to get under his skin.
