Udonis Haslem: Who is Miami Heat's new vice president?

NEW DELHI: Udonis Haslem has returned to the Miami Heat, but this time in an executive role. On Tuesday, the long-awaited move was finalized, as Haslem was named the team's new vice president of basketball development. This development comes five months after he concluded his remarkable 20-year playing career with the Heat, during which he spent 16 years as the team's captain.

Udonis Haslem is renowned for being one of only two players to have played a part in all three of Miami's NBA championship-winning teams, the other being Dwyane Wade.


Haslem, who hails from Miami and holds the franchise record for career rebounds, had long expressed his desire to join the Heat's front office or ownership group following his retirement. In recent weeks, he had already been present at some of the team's practices.

Haslem, who retired at 43 years old after the last season, was the NBA's oldest active player. He was a three-time NBA champion and the third player in the league's history to have a two-decade career with a single franchise, joining the ranks of Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks and the late Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers.


He also set a record as the oldest player to participate in an NBA Finals game, achieving this feat just two days before his 43rd birthday when the Heat faced off against the Denver Nuggets in June.

In his new role with the Heat, Haslem will undertake various responsibilities, including collaborating with the coaching staff, mentoring both Miami Heat players and those assigned to the team's G League affiliate in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and serving as a representative of the organization within the community.
