"The gossip went global": Dwyane Wade once recalled STD accusations from ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches and how it changed his life

Dwyane Wade and his wife, Gabrielle Union, have been married for more than a decade now, but the NFL legend was previously married to his high school sweetheart, Siohvaughn Funches, and even shares two children with her. While Dwyane Wade’s marriage to Siohvaughn Funches lasted eight years, their divorce was messy when he was accused of giving her an STD.

Dwyane Wade’s divorce with Siohvaughn Funches was an extremely messy one and his ex wife, had accused him of passing on an STD to her. Dwyane Wade had strongly denied such claims but the word was already out.


Later, in 2012, Dwyane Wade released his book, A Father First: How My Life Became Bigger Than Basketball, where he detailed how his life changed because of such accusations.

Dwyane Wade wrote, “The damage some of these accusations caused led me to file a defamation suit against her. The claims were discredited and her suit was eventually withdrawn. But before that happened, the gossip went global and was relentless.”

The NBA legend added, “Not being paranoid or anything, I was pretty sure that when I was out and about people were giving me dirty looks.”

After being married for eight years, Dwyane Wade and Siohvaughn Funches, finally got divorced in 2010.

However, Dwyane Wade soon found love again as he met the popular actress, Gabrielle Union, and the two quickly fell in love.

While Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union did face a few issues in their relationship and were even forced to take a break from each other, they soon found their way back to each other.

Today, the two enjoy a lavish life together with their only daughter, seven year old Kaavia Wade, and the NBA legend’s other children that he shares custody with his ex wife, Siohvaughn Funches, and another former close friend.

Both Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union have proved how deep their love is as they went through one of the most difficult years of their lives.
