Before undergoing heart surgery in 2018, Shareef O'Neal was already a rising star in the basketball world. The son of NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal, Shareef showcased his talent early at Crossroads School in California, making waves with a career-high 15 points against Brentwood in 2017 and later scoring 20 points against Mater Dei. His high school success set high expectations as he entered college, but a heart condition and surgery derailed his progress. Despite this, he remained determined, putting up solid stats with 2.6 points and 3 rebounds per game before taking his game to the G League Ignite.
In October 2023, Shareef’s hard work paid off when the Sacramento Kings selected him, fulfilling his lifelong dream of playing in the NBA. However, his celebration was short-lived as he was quickly moved to the G-League Stockton Kings in an Exhibit-10 deal. While still working to develop his game, Shareef’s perseverance and love for basketball are undeniable, proving that his journey is far from over. Despite the setbacks, Shareef is determined to carve out his own legacy in the NBA, following in his father’s footsteps.
