Shai Gilgeous-Alexander who was previously represented by Joe Smith of Wasserman, will now navigate his own player contracts while still employing someone to manage his marketing and off-court opportunities. Haynes confirmed the news on X, writing, "Sources: Oklahoma City Thunder superstar/MVP frontrunner Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has parted ways with his representation to make the bold move of serving as his own agent. #haynesbriefs."

Gilgeous-Alexander’s decision came after the controversial NBA All-Star Game, which left many fans and players divided over the new format. This season, the league scrapped the traditional Eastern Conference vs. Western Conference showdown and introduced a mini-tournament in an attempt to make the game more competitive. Four teams, including the winners of the Rising Stars Challenge, battled in a single-elimination bracket, with each game played to a target score of 40 points.

The experiment had mixed reactions from fans and analysts alike and Gilgeous-Alexander, who played just six minutes and scored four points in his team’s 41-25 loss, also shared his honest take on the new format.

“Breaks, I guess, weren't ideal. I would rather play without breaks,” he said, reflecting on the format. “I guess it's up to the guys that handle all that stuff to figure out what's next and how to keep making it more and more interesting, and hopefully we get there one day.”

Shaquille O’Neal’s squad dominated the competition, securing the championship with a commanding 41-25 victory over Charles Barkley’s team. The high-energy matchup capped off the NBA’s revamped All-Star format. The Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, playing in front of the home crowd, delivered a standout performance and earned MVP honors for his efforts.

As one of the NBA’s brightest stars, Gilgeous-Alexander’s decision to represent himself could set a precedent for future players looking to take control of their financial and professional futures. With his performance on the court speaking for itself and his leadership on the rise, this move certainly hints at a new chapter for the Thunder guard where he dictates his own path in the NBA.

Gilgeous-Alexander has been vocal about his remarks and career decisions since his debut in the NBA. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leads the league with an impressive 32.5 points per game, adding 5.1 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and a 52.3% field goal percentage. Alexander alongside his team, the Oklahoma City Thunder will resume their season on Friday at the Utah Jazz.
