Victor Wembanyama earned his first NBA All-Star selection, making the cut as one of the Western Conference reserves. The 21-year-old San Antonio Spurs center is having an impressive second season.

Despite missing out on a starting spot behind LeBron James and Kevin Durant, Wembanyama was a clear pick for the All-Star reserves. He’ll join other first-time selections like Alperen Sengun and Jalen Williams at the NBA All-Star Game in San Francisco on February 16. Wembanyama has been in his A-game and continues to shine as one of the brightest young stars in the league.

After winning the 2023-24 Rookie of the Year, Wembanyama is making a massive impact in his second season. He’s averaging 24.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, and nearly 4 blocks per game. With 150 blocks, he leads the NBA by a wide margin, boasting a record 34 consecutive games with a block and a three-pointer.

Wembanyama is the only player in history with multiple seasons of 150+ blocks, 100+ assists, and 100+ three-pointers. His rapid rise continues to break NBA records and establish him as one of the game's brightest stars.

The NBA changed the All-Star Game format this year in hopes of making the event more competitive. Last year’s game, the highest-scoring in history, ended with a 211-186 scoreline, dominated by three-pointers and dunks. With the new format, the league aims to bring a different energy to the game.

"We went back to the drawing board," NBA Commissioner Adam Silver previously said. "We had direct conversations with many of the players, many of the perennial All-Stars, to talk about what it is that we could put together from a competitive standpoint. I'm optimistic this year that we landed on a formula that will work," he added.
