NEW DELHI: Former Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo found himself in legal trouble over the weekend, facing multiple charges, including possession of a firearm and marijuana, after being arrested in Jackson County, Indiana.

The 37-year-old, who played nine of his 16 NBA seasons with the Celtics, was pulled over on Interstate 65 for a traffic violation, according to Indiana State Police. During the stop, the trooper reportedly detected the smell of marijuana emanating from Rondo's vehicle.

Subsequent searches led to the discovery of a firearm, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Notably, Rondo is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to an existing protection order against him.

All charges against Rondo are classified as misdemeanors. Following his arrest, he was booked in the Jackson County Jail and later released upon payment of bond.

This isn't the first time Rondo has faced legal issues. In 2022, a Louisville woman sought an emergency protective order against him, alleging threats to her life. The order was dismissed a year later after Rondo completed anger management classes, counseling, and a mental health evaluation. Another emergency protective order was filed by the same woman in March of the following year, resulting in an agreed order five months later.

During Rondo's recent arrest, a child was reportedly present in the car and was subsequently released into the custody of a family member.

Rondo, a two-time NBA champion with titles in 2008 (Celtics) and 2020 (Los Angeles Lakers), is a four-time All-Star and has played for various teams during his illustrious career, including the Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Cleveland Cavaliers. His last NBA stint was with the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2021-22 season.
