During the NBA’s London Summit, Gasol said, “This is a very unique opportunity. It’s all about learning from each other. It’s all about creating this new venture together."


Gasol’s potential role as a CEO or primary ambassador would put him at the center of a massive negotiation table. The NBA is already in talks with heavy hitters like the Saudi Public Investment Fund and Qatar Sports Investments. While soccer giants like Manchester City have recently cooled on the idea, the NBA is still courting legendary clubs like Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Having Gasol, a Barcelona icon, leading the charge gives the NBA the local credibility it needs to navigate the complex politics of European sports.
