New York Knicks' front office officially rules out trading Karl-Anthony Towns this season

The New York Knicks are currently navigating a storm of rumors revolving around their star centre, Karl-Anthony Towns, but the front office has just signaled that they aren't ready to jump ship. Despite the Big Apple pressure and a rocky stretch that saw the team drop nine of eleven games, the organization is reportedly standing firm with its blockbuster acquisition, Karl-Anthony Towns. While social media trade machines have been working overtime following a demoralizing loss to the Mavericks. But the Knicks’ recent win over the Nets with a 54-point margin, the message from MSG is clear: they are playing the long game.

Knicks have no interest in trading Karl-Anthony Towns

The Knicks traded away beloved core pieces Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to bring KAT to Manhattan in October 2024, a move designed to raise the team's ceiling to championship levels. Despite KAT’s current shooting slump, Leon Rose and the coaching staff seem convinced that chemistry takes time. They aren't willing to hit the panic button before the February 5th deadline.

The Athletic’s Sam Amick recently provided a definitive update on where the team stands: “According to league and team sources, the Knicks have not engaged in any discussions about a possible Towns trade this season and plan on persevering with him during this challenging time.”



This vote of confidence is massive. It effectively shuts down the speculation and puts the onus on the roster to find their rhythm. By persevering, the Knicks are betting on Towns’ elite floor-spacing to eventually outweigh the growing pains of Mike Brown’s new system. For the 2025-26 season, Karl-Anthony is averaging 20.8 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists while shooting 46.9% from the field.

Knicks are weathering the storm in Manhattan

Patience is a rare commodity in New York, and it was shown when the entire MSG booed the Knicks after their embarrassing loss to the Mavs. The fans are hungry for a deep playoff run, and any sign of regression is met with immediate calls for change. However, moving Towns now would be a massive admission of failure for a front office that has been precise in its roster-building process.

The challenge remains the defensive end, as without Mitchell Robinson’s rim protection, the burden on KAT has been immense. If the Knicks can survive this challenging time and solidify their defensive stance, the Brunson-Towns duo could still be the most lethal inside-out combo in the East. For now, the KAT to the trade block narrative can officially be put on ice.
