According to the reports published by “NBA Communications”, former NBA player Jason Collins is suffering from a brain tumor and is undergoing treatment. Much information has not been revealed yet, because the family demands complete privacy. The social media post read, “NBA ambassador and 13-year NBA veteran Jason Collins is currently undergoing treatment for a brain tumor. Jason and his family welcome your support and prayers and kindly ask for privacy as they dedicate their attention to Jason's health and well-being”.
The 46-year-old NBA veteran played for 13 seasons in the league. He played with many teams of the NBA, including the Brooklyn Nets, Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves, Boston Celtics, and more.
Jason Collins is the first openly gay athlete in the league
The former NBA player, Jason Collins, is perhaps one of the most popular players in the league. This is mostly because of his bold announcement back in 2013. He claimed that he is gay, making him the first athlete ever to have openly announced his sexual orientation in the league. He is in a relationship with the film producer, Brunson Green, and was married to him in May 2025.
