NBA updates: NBA join hands with FIBA, Luka Doncic injury status and more
December 22 marked another significant day for the NBA. The league announced its collaboration with FIBA. Both organizations joined hands to launch a new European Men’s league. The league would feature permanent teams and additional spots up for grabs through an annual qualification pathway. This might be good news for the teams affiliated with the leagues.
On the other hand, a major team in the NBA faced a massive blow. The Los Angeles Lakers will have to play their next few games without their star player, Luka Doncic. Luka suffered an injury during the game against the Los Angeles Clippers. It is not a good time for teams with their key players being out due to injury or even restricted with limited minutes. The San Antonio Spurs also listed their star player Victor Wembanyama as questionable in their latest injury report. Wembanyama played the last game with a limited-minutes restriction.
It was also announced that the league would synchronize its timetable with those of domestic leagues and national teams in order to avoid any clash. Both the organizations have also talked about how they would provide resources and financial support to the clubs within the European basketball ecosystem. This includes national leagues, club academies, and current NBA and FIBA programs.
This is going to be tough for the Lakers team. Especially after their recent setback against the Clippers and within the standings as a whole. This is not the first time the Slovenian athlete missed out on the Lakers’ game. After playing in the opening matches, the player was away for quite a few matches before finally making a comeback during halloween against the Memphis Grizzlies.
In the last game, Wemby played with a limited minutes restriction and managed to lead the team to their victory. Now, as the player is not sure about appearing in the game against the Thunder, this has had the fans worried.
