NBA updates: Anthony Davis to Golden State Warriors? Stephen Curry's team eye bold trade as risky blockbuster rumors heat up
With several teams competing for his services and his health being a crucial consideration, Anthony Davis' future is still up in the air. Trade negotiations are intensifying, but their success will depend on how well assets are balanced and how each team's requirements are met. According to reports, the Golden State Warriors have considered trading for the Dallas Mavericks star.
They have re-examined their previous level of interest. Although the Warriors have long admired Davis, they have seldom been in a position to negotiate a deal that would be both financially and competitively advantageous. If the Warriors were to execute a risky but realistic trade with the Mavs to get Davis, Stephen Curry would no longer play with a dominant scoring big man.
The Golden State Warriors seem to be a team that is frequently brought up in various trade rumors as trade talk heats up around the league. According to a recent report by NBA insider Chris Haynes of NBA on Prime, the Warriors are looking to deal athletic centers.
He said that:
“Dallas was not that fascinated with what Golden State has on its books…they would likely have to acquire some more assets or involve another team.”
Haynes added another All-Star-caliber player to the list of possible trade targets for the Warriors on Friday, building on his earlier report. Haynes claims that the Warriors are considering pursuing center Anthony Davis of the Dallas Mavericks.
The Mavericks aren't "that fascinated" with what the Warriors could give for Davis, Haynes continued. According to Haynes, the Warriors would need to either acquire additional assets or engage a third team in a trade in order to obtain a package for Davis.
The Mavericks are dubious about the deal they may present, but the Warriors are looking at trade options to get Anthony Davis. A third party may be required to facilitate a contract.
The Mavericks are wary of the Warriors' trade assets, and it's still unclear if a workable deal for Davis can be made without the involvement of a third party. Atlanta's problems also make their strategy more difficult since they have to think about the wider ramifications of a big roster change.
In the meanwhile, the Warriors' star player, Jonathan Kuminga, is included in a Davis trade; but, the front management would also need to be willing to sell Draymond Green. Despite all of the risks and injury concerns, Davis is still a formidable two-way player on the court.
Due to a groin strain, Davis is currently sidelined, raising questions about his future and health. The Hawks, Raptors, and Warriors have all shown interest, and Atlanta may want to make roster changes in the midst of a five-game losing skid. When he becomes available in August of next year, Davis is anticipated to pursue a lucrative long-term agreement, regardless of where he plays.
Davis scored 31 and 35 points in games before his most recent injury issue on Christmas Day against Golden State. He also pulled down 14 or more rebounds in three of the previous four games. Last season, he shot 51.6% from the field and 77.5% from the free-throw line while averaging 24.7 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.2 blocks.
