Kiyan Anthony is well on his way to joining the Syracuse Wildcats, and parents Melo and La La could not be more proud of their son. Unfortunately for the young athlete, he was not named on the 2025 McDonald's All-American Game Boys Rosters. Following in his father's footsteps, who was in sharp form for his own 2002 McDonald’s All-American Game at Madison Square Garden, Kiyan was a prospective candidate for the 2025 roster. Sadly, he was not able to fulfill that dream.
Kiyan Anthony misses the chance to play at the McDonald’s All-American Game
The McDAAG 2025 nominees list just dropped, and unlike what many had thought, Carmelo Anthony's son, Kiyan, did not make the list. Even after having a splendid season, he fell short on one aspect. According to the rules of
McDonald’s All-American Game, players must complete at least 50 percent of their senior season. Unfortunately, because of an injury back in November, he had to sit out for more than two months.
This meant he was not considered for the McDAAG. But fear not, because he is not getting down because of that. Instead, he is spending his time showing the world how much his parents, especially his mother La La, mean to him. La La has been Kiyan's biggest supporter from Day 1. And on hard days like this, she does not forget to cheer for him a little louder than most. But this time, it was her son who showed some love to his mama.
La La recently posted a story of Kiyan wearing a T-shirt with her face on it. "Look at Kiyan wearing the shirt with me on it," she said. And then captioned the story with an "I love this shirt🥹❤" Looks like Kiyan is focusing on the good things - his family, then lamenting missed opportunities.
Despite missing McDAAG, Kiyan Anthony had a splendid senior season
Kiyan Anthony's 2024 season at his high school, Long Island Lutheran started with an average of 10.3 points, 2.4 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per game. But things didn't stay the same and Melo and La La's son had a massive evolution. During the EYBL run, he was scoring 19.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. At the Top 100 Camp, the young athlete averaged 28.5 points over eight games, with a 42-point score being his best.
Despite having such an amazing season, because of missing out due to injury, the 17-year-old was
out of the McDAAG before they even announced the nominees. But the good thing is he is not letting this affect him, and Kiyan is being his happy self, spending time with his biggest cheerleader - Mama Anthony.
