NBA Offseason Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers might sign $165 million "Greek Freak" and NBA Champion to support LeBron James and Luka Doncic

The Los Angeles Lakers are rumored to be eyeing a blockbuster move that could reshape the NBA landscape. After acquiring Luka Doncic in a shocking trade earlier this year, the franchise is reportedly setting its sights on Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. If successful, this move would create a terrifying Big Three alongside LeBron James, instantly catapulting the Lakers into championship contention.

The Los Angeles Lakers made waves on February 1 by trading Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks for Doncic. While the move added flexibility and star power, the team has gone 9-6 since Doncic’s debut on February 10. With championship aspirations driving their decisions, Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus suggests the Lakers could pursue Giannis Antetokounmpo this summer. "The Lakers already landed a dream target in Luka Doncic, but the franchise is greedy," Pincus said. "If Antetokounmpo demands out, a combination of salaries, talent, and picks could get him to Los Angeles. It's a stretch, but it'd be remiss to leave him out if this is a team's wish list."

However, the path to acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo is fraught with challenges. The Los Angeles Lakers have already traded away their first-round picks in 2025, 2027, and 2029, leaving them unable to trade their 2026, 2028, and 2030 picks. This limitation could complicate negotiations unless the Lakers get creative. Players like Austin Reaves, Dalton Knecht, and Rui Hachimura could serve as valuable trade assets, either directly or in separate deals to acquire additional draft capital.

If the Lakers manage to pull off this ambitious move, the trio of Luka Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and James would be a nightmare for opponents. Doncic and Antetokounmpo’s pick-and-roll chemistry would be unstoppable, while James’ playmaking and scoring prowess remain elite. Antetokounmpo’s defensive versatility would also address the Lakers’ need for rim protection, making them a well-rounded powerhouse.
