NBA injury report: Massive Anthony Davis recovery update sparks excitement ahead of potential Washington Wizards debut
Due to ligament damage in his left hand, Anthony Davis has been sidelined since January 8, but he may soon be able to play again. The big man for the Washington Wizards has been recuperating, and the team has finally provided some positive updates on the situation.
Since acquiring Anthony Davis in a pre-trade deadline trade last month, the Washington Wizards have not used him because he is recovering from left hand ligament damage he suffered while playing for the Dallas Mavericks. As he recovers from ligament damage in his left, non-shooting hand, the 10-time All-Star was approved for "individual on-court basketball activities," the Washington team announced on Thursday.
Despite both players' ailments at the time, Washington signed Davis and Trae Young in the middle of the season. The franchise's aims were very evident in this move. The Wizards gave a new report on Davis's hand injury on Thursday.
The veteran big man was cleared to start limited, individual on-court basketball exercises after being reevaluated earlier this week, according to the organization. The press release read:
“The Washington Wizards announced today the following injury update for forward/center Anthony Davis.. Davis, who is out with ligament damage in his left hand, was reevaluated Wednesday by Dr. Steven Shin of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles…”
It continued:
“He continues to progress as expected and has been cleared to begin limited individual on-court basketball activities. Davis will be reevaluated in two weeks, and further updates will be provided at that time…”
Now, Anthony Davis is getting closer to making his Wizards debut. Although team officials stated they will reevaluate Davis in two weeks, the Wizards did not speculate as to when he could join the rest of the squad.
Since the Wizards acquired the five-time All-NBA pick from the Dallas Mavericks prior to last month's trade deadline, he has not played for the team. Due to the injury, the 6-10 power forward hasn't played since January 8.
In two weeks, the group plans to provide its next formal update on Davis's rehabilitation timeline, according to Washington, who also stated that Davis will go through another evaluation. Although it's unclear if Davis will play this season, Wizards supporters are excited to see him.
Several reporters suggested Davis was unlikely to make his debut until the fall before general manager Will Dawkins spoke to the media after the trade deadline on February 5.
In 807 games across his 14 seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, and New Orleans Pelicans, Davis averaged 24.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.3 blocks. The NBA champion and ten-time All-Star is now getting closer to making his Wizards debut.
Washington's record is 16-45 with less than six weeks left, so the team has little reason to advocate for his return. The most recent information indicates that the 10-time All-Star is not yet prepared for scrimmaging or full-contact activity, suggesting that he is likewise developing cautiously. It should be more evident from the upcoming assessment in a few weeks whether Davis will be able to play before the season ends.
In 20 games this season, Davis averaged 20.4 points and 11.1 rebounds per contest. Concerns about injuries have dogged the 32-year-old's career. When healthy, he is regarded by many as one of the league's top defenders. Guard Trae Young, Davis' new teammate, will play his first game in a Wizards uniform on Thursday night at home against the Utah Jazz.
