The
Los Angeles Lakers are emerging as strong contenders in the Western Conference after securing key additions like Luka Doncic and Mark Williams. However, the team’s backcourt depth has seen better days, prompting speculation that the Lakers may turn to the buyout market for reinforcements. One name gaining traction is former
Philadelphia 76ers guard
Josh Richardson, currently with the Utah Jazz following the Jimmy Butler trade.
Josh Richardson, who once signed a $42 million contract, could be a valuable addition if the Jazz opt to buy out his deal. According to USA Today’s LeBron Wire, the Los Angeles Lakers are predicted to pursue Richardson to bolster their roster.
"The University of Tennessee product has career averages of 11.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.0 steals per game, with a career 3-point shooting accuracy of 36.3%," wrote Robert Marvi of USA Today.
"He was a teammate of Doncic during the 2020-21 season with the Dallas Mavericks and could welcome the opportunity to play for a possible contender like Los Angeles."

Josh Richardson still provides dependable defence and sporadic offensive flashes, even though he may not be the same player he was when he was at his best with the Miami Heat or Sixers. Given his background and connection with Doncic, he might fit right in with the Los Angeles Lakers' system.
The buyout market is expected to feature several guards, giving the Lakers options to consider. However, Josh Richardson’s skill set and prior connection with Doncic make him a standout candidate. The decision will likely hinge on the financial terms and how much the Lakers are willing to invest in shoring up their backcourt.
The
Los Angeles Lakers' pursuit of Richardson may prove crucial as the season goes on if they want to make a deep postseason run. In addition to solving their depth problems, his possible signing would provide
LeBron James and Doncic a seasoned guard who can play both sides of the court.
For now, all eyes are on the Jazz’s decision regarding Josh Richardson’s future. If he hits the buyout market, the Lakers appear ready to make their move.
