Luka Doncic’s custody battle with Anamaria Goltes has taken a fresh turn, one that now stretches beyond the court and into the calendar. The Los Angeles Lakers star, still recovering from a hamstring injury, has agreed to delay a key court hearing tied to his ongoing dispute. That decision quietly shifts attention to both his personal situation and his possible playoff timeline.
A filing obtained earlier this week shows Luka Doncic and his attorney Laura Wasser approved moving the hearing from May 14 to later in the summer. The timing stands out, especially with the NBA postseason unfolding through May and June.

The Luka Doncic custody battle update centers on where and when this case will move forward. The new date now sits on August 14, with several options considered beyond mid-June, per The California Post. The upcoming hearing will decide whether Anamaria Goltes’ petition for child support in California should be dismissed. Wasser has argued that Slovenia, not California, is the proper place to handle the matter.
In her filing, she stated, “Slovenia is the appropriate forum for adjudication of this dispute,” noting that none of the parties live in California. She also claimed Goltes’ “California Petition is a clear attempt to forum shop and avail herself of the generous amounts of child support for which California is well-known.” The defense further pointed to a family law case already filed in Slovenia earlier this year.
If Doncic returns to full fitness and the Lakers advance deep into the playoffs, his schedule would clash with earlier court dates. A summer hearing avoids that conflict, though no official reason was given for the change.
What happened between Luka Doncic and Anamaria Goltes?
The situation between Doncic and Goltes traces back years, long before NBA headlines followed them. They met as teenagers and built a life together that included two daughters. Their relationship shifted earlier this year, when Doncic confirmed the end of their engagement.
"I love my daughters more than anything and I've been doing everything I can for them to be with me in the U.S. during the season, but that hasn't been possible, so I recently made the tough decision to end my engagement," he said, adding, "everything I do is for my daughters' happiness and I will always fight to be with them and give them the best life I can."
Court filings later revealed that Goltes sought child support and legal fees in California. Sources close to Doncic maintain he had already been providing for his children without limits. They also noted that he had limited time with his daughters in recent months, adding urgency to his legal efforts.
For now, the case moves into a quieter phase, with both sides preparing for a decision that could shape where and how this dispute is resolved.
