Since his arrival to the
Los Angeles Lakers from the Dallas Mavericks in a surprising yet blockbuster trade,
Luka Doncic has been in the constant spotlight as fans and analysts are still processing one of the most shocking incidents in the recent history of the NBA. So far, Doncic has appeared in two games— both against the Utah Jazz. While his performances were decent considering the minutes he stayed on the court, Doncic made a ripple in the roster.
Doncic has received a warm welcome from the Lakers including LeBron James and the team’s head coach
JJ Redick. In his recent statement, Doncic showered praise for his new coach. "He's a great coach. I know it's only his first year, but it don't feel like it. It feels like he's been here for 15 years. Props to him and I can't wait to be coached more by him," Doncic said.
Doncic made his highly anticipated debut on Monday Night against the Jazz where he added 14 points in 23 minutes of play in the 132-113 victory over the Utah Jazz at Crypto.com Arena, Los Angeles.
"Hi Lakers nation. Sometimes, life has bigger plans than we do. I just want to say thank you for welcoming me to LA. It's been amazing, and I can't wait to be out there. See you soon," Doncic shared the heartfelt message on Instagram following his Lakers debut.

Utah Jazz will always be a part of Doncic’s history as he played the first two games. The Jazz general manager Justin Zanik has recently given his thoughts on the trade. “Rob Pelinka even said in his press conference introducing Luka that it was a ‘gift’ and I think that is how a lot of my colleagues — I don’t want to speak for them — but how we all kind of felt,” Zanik said in a press talk during Jazz-Lakers game Wednesday. “Obviously, it kind of re-shaped the Western Conference,” Zanik continued.
“When we are up there with those guys very soon, maybe I would care a little bit more about being the third team. At this point where we are, if we were in the playoffs right now I’d be asking both of them what is ‘Going on here’ and basically ‘I’m not doing it’ but where we are the ability to pick up stuff, basically for free, to do something that another team would have done anyway, that was really sweet,” he added.
While Nico Harrison has been under constant criticism, Zanik praised the Dallas Mavericks general manager. “Nico in Dallas, they do a great job. They obviously had their reasons and wanting to improve the defense and got a top 15 player in their own right there, you know, they decided that was in their best interest,” he shared.
