Lamar Odom still in rehab? Former NBA great shares positive sobriety update after recent DUI arrest
After weeks in rehab, former NBA player Lamar Odom is reportedly staying sober and feeling better. According to TMZ's initial claim, his close people informed the outlet that Lamar is "doing really good" and "feeling amazing." For context, Odom checked himself into the iRely Recovery center in Los Angeles for a 30-day treatment program.
This happened after his encounter with the police, which set off certain triggers from his history that he needed to deal with. Lamar has roughly a week left to finish his treatment program at the recovery center, the outlet was later informed. The two-time NBA champion has already battled with alcohol and drug usage in public as he was arrested in 2013 for DUI in Los Angeles.
Lamar Odom is receiving expert assistance after his rehab. According to TMZ Sports, the NBA champion entered a rehabilitation facility following his recent arrest for DUI. According to an insider:
"This time was different because Lamar checked himself in.”
The same person added that the athlete has received a great deal of support from friends and relatives. Lamar will have to handle his DUI criminal case after he leaves treatment. He engaged lawyer Michael Becker to represent him in court since he is allegedly feeling a "little worried" about the situation.
Lamar was arrested for driving under the influence while driving around Sin City, as TMZ reported last month. A DUI charge and two other driving infractions led to the former Los Angeles Lakers star's arrest.
Odom allegedly neglected to properly maintain travel lanes and exceeded the speed limit by more than 41 mph. Additionally, his car reportedly smelled like marijuana, according to a police report. Lamar then allegedly told the same outlet that he was not under the influence of drugs.
He said that:
"I am learning from this experience and remain committed to my continued growth… I've worked hard to rebuild my life, and taking responsibility is an essential part of that process."
He continued:
"I am cooperating fully, staying honest, and focused on moving forward with integrity. Thank you to those who continue to support me."
According to court documents, Odom will appear in Nevada court on March 17. When Fox News Digital reached out to Odom and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for comment, they did not immediately reply.
Thirteen years have passed since the former athlete's DUI arrest in California. According to People, at that time, Odom consented to participate in a three-month alcohol education program, was placed on three years of probation, and had to pay $1,800 in fines and penalties.
Meanwhile, he was also married to Khloe Kardashian. However, it reportedly ended badly. Years after their divorce was finalized, Khloe consented to meet her ex-husband in order to reconcile their chaotic marriage and restore some of his former possessions.
Khloe's best friend, Maliqa Haqq, hosted the meeting at her home. The first episode of season six of the reality TV series The Kardashians featured it. Nevertheless, Khloe hasn’t said anything about the arrest of the rehab as of yet.
