The LA Lakers vs San Antonio Spurs game that was supposed to be held tonight, January 11, 2025, in Los Angeles has been postponed with no disclosure of a reschedule. The NBA has taken a significant step by postponing two games scheduled for Saturday due to the tragic wildfires engulfing the Los Angeles area. These include the highly anticipated matchups between the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs at Crypto.com Arena and the LA Clippers versus Charlotte Hornets at Intuit Dome. The league announced that these games would be rescheduled, although the new dates are yet to be confirmed.

The NBA explained the rationale behind the decision with a post on their official Twitter account. "The National Basketball Association games scheduled for tomorrow between the San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers at Crypto.com Arena and between the Charlotte Hornets and LA Clippers at Intuit Dome have been postponed due to the ongoing wildfires in the Los Angeles area. The dates for the rescheduled games will be announced at a later time."

The postponement reflects the league’s concern and commitment to ensuring that local resources remain focused on combating the wildfires. "The NBA and the Clippers and Lakers organizations have been in communication with local officials in Los Angeles and Inglewood about the ongoing situation in the Los Angeles area, and the game postponements ensure no resources will be diverted from the wildfire response efforts," the statement added.

This is the second time in a row the Lakers have had to reschedule a game due to wildfires. Just days before, their game against the Charlotte Hornets was postponed for similar reasons. Despite the inconvenience, the Lakers plan to stay in Los Angeles for their next six games.

Amid the chaos, Lakers head coach JJ Redick shared an emotional perspective, having personally suffered a loss due to the wildfires. "I wanna play tomorrow, I wanna coach tomorrow," he said. "I want these guys to play tomorrow, and if we can play, we'll play. I do believe that for everybody that has been impacted by this, there is a grieving process, there's a healing process. I can only speak for myself. Part of my healing and grieving process is being here."
