On June 26, NBA player Karl-Anthony Towns posted a kind message for Ketel Marte on X. Towns, who plays for the New York Knicks, also lost his mother in 2020. He wrote:
“Some things should never be said. Your mother is proud, and so are we do”

Ketel Marte breaks down after fan’s offensive comment
The incident happened in the seventh inning. Marte was at bat when a fan shouted something cruel about his mother, Elpidia Valdez, who passed away in 2020. Ketel Marte wiped away tears on the field while the stadium watched quietly.
