Jaylen Brown has long been a target of unfair criticism, despite his undeniable talent and role as a key player for the Boston Celtics. Known for keeping a low profile, the 28-year-old star is now stepping up and taking control of his narrative. Whether it's dealing with criticism from Nike or broadcasters, Brown is no longer staying silent, and he's making sure his voice is heard.

Jaylen Brown takes a stand

While Jayson Tatum often faces unjust criticism, his teammate Jaylen Brown is no stranger to hate either despite being the reigning Finals MVP. The 28-year-old Celtics star has long dealt with unwarranted attacks, but he's no longer staying silent.

After fresh criticism from Nike and Minnesota Timberwolves broadcasters, Brown swiftly responded. His ongoing feud with Nike began in 2022 when he criticized the brand for ending its partnership with Kyrie Irving, tweeting, Since when did Nike care about ethics?” More recently, Nike fired back at Brown with a cheeky post, which he responded to with, “Y’all got weird energy.” (via: EssentiallySports)

Brown also took aim at Timberwolves broadcasters after they criticized his long-range shooting, posting, “Hating a– broadcast lol.”

When asked if hate motivated him, Brown said it didn’t, but explained that he’s tired of letting others create his narrative. “I’ve never said anything majority of my career I let people kind of create the narrative for me. I never talk, don’t smile. I kind of just let things be said.” Brown is standing up for himself and making sure his voice is heard.

Jaylen Brown fires back at haters

While Jaylen Brown chose not to engage directly with his critics, he still sent a clear message. It wasn’t the usual fiery response, but a more measured admission. He shared, “This year, especially with people saying and trying to create narratives, I’m not marketable and all different other type of stuff I feel like it’s fair for me to just say something in return.”

This comes after a notable exchange with Stephen A. Smith, who labeled Brown as "unmarketable." In true JB fashion, Brown clapped back with a simple, “State the source,” and even turned the moment into a victory anthem, proudly emblazoning the phrase on his parade shirt.

This isn’t the first time Brown has addressed such narratives. During a recent appearance on Hot Ones, he admitted, “I don’t really do too many podcasts, too much talking, interviews, I rarely do them. So some of the narratives float and I allow them to float, but going forward, I look forward to clearing up some misconceptions.” And true to his word, Brown has been active on social media, challenging the misconceptions and making his voice heard.
