Stephen Curry knows pressure. He lives with it on the court, carries it into business ventures, and feels it at home while raising four children. At the Los Angeles premiere of GOAT on Friday, the Warriors star spoke about how he and
Ayesha Curry keep their marriage steady amid busy schedules and public attention.
The 37-year-old Golden State Warriors superstar shared that the foundation of their relationship has nothing to do with grand gestures. It centers on how they speak to each other when life becomes demanding. That approach, he said, allows them to handle stress without letting it turn personal. For Stephen and Ayesha, clarity and connection have been non-negotiable.
Stephen Curry reveals simple rule to married life with Ayesha Curry
Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE, Stephen Curry said open and honest communication has been the secret to their happy married lives. “It sounds kind of cheesy, but it's really a foundation,” he told the outlet. “We built that over time, where you can say whatever is on your mind and it doesn’t come off as a personal attack or anything.”
Curry further acknowledged his busy schedule often takes a toll while balancing his life. “Life is hard and you're trying to, you know, handle all the stress and especially as parents, too. But if you can prioritize that, then prioritize each other as much as possible, that's the foundation,” he added.
Ayesha Curry also shared that staying connected does not always require elaborate plans. “Even if it's a night like this, like, that's a date night for us,” she said. “That togetherness and that foundation of why we started this life together in the first place is always at the core of it.”
Married since 2011, the couple recently celebrated 14 years together. They are parents to Riley, Ryan, Canon, and Caius, balancing family life alongside demanding careers.
What is Stephen and Ayesha Curry-starrer GOAT about?
GOAT marks the first time Stephen and Ayesha appear in a film together. The animated sports comedy follows Will, a determined goat voiced by Caleb McLaughlin, who dreams of becoming a professional “roarball” player in a world dominated by bigger and faster animals.
Curry voices Lenny Williamson, a giraffe, and admitted he leaned on Ayesha’s experience during recording. “She's been doing it her whole life,” he said. “For the first session we had, she went first and I got to sit in and watch her work and it kind of broke the ice a little bit.”
GOAT arrives in theaters on Feb. 13
