The
Dallas Mavericks’ decision to trade
Luka Doncicto the
Los Angeles Lakers for
Anthony Davis has sent shockwaves through the NBA, leaving fans and analysts surprised. While a few have tried to defend the move, most just aren’t buying it. Former NBA star Jalen Rose didn’t hold back, calling out the Mavericks’ ownership for failing to commit to their franchise player. He even went as far as to say that if they weren’t willing to pay Doncic, they should sell the team— adding even more fuel to an already fiery debate.
Jalen Rose Criticizes Mavericks Ownership Over Luka Doncic Trade
Ahead of last weekend’s highly anticipated All-Star Game, former NBA star
Jalen Rose, now a prominent analyst, did not hold back in his criticism of the
Mavericks’ front office. He specifically called out the way
Luka Doncic was portrayed leading up to and following the trade.
"Normally, when you're about to get traded, there comes out negative things about your character publicly... I don't like that it happened with Luka before he got traded and after he's traded. Is he in the greatest shape? No. Does he have some off-court things that he probably needs to improve as a 25-year-old? Absolutely. And I love Anthony Davis. But he was the second-best player on a championship team,” Rose said
. “When Luka wins the championship, by the way, he just led them to the Finals last year and has been All-NBA [First Team] five times, he's going to be the best player on a championship team. So, to me, it seems like they didn't want to pay Luka. If you don't wanna pay Luka, just sell the team. That's how I feel about it, because if you ain't gonna pay somebody that accomplished what he accomplished already, I don't know..."
The former NBA star continued, "It seems like [the Mavs] didn't wanna pay Luka, so for me if you don't wanna pay Luka, then just sell the team. That's how I feel about it."
Rose’s comments quickly gained traction, fueling the ongoing outrage surrounding the trade. Fans and analysts alike have been vocal in their disappointment, with many echoing the sentiment that the Mavericks’ decision to move Doncic was shortsighted.
While the Mavericks still possess talent, their season has been riddled with setbacks. Anthony Davis, the centerpiece of the trade, lasted only three quarters before suffering an adductor strain, further compounding the team’s struggles. As frustrations mount, questions remain about whether this trade will ultimately help or hurt the franchise’s future.
