Derrick Rose made it clear he’s not interested in a statue in his honor despite his legendary impact on the Chicago Bulls. In a recent interview, Rose shared his thoughts on the possibility of the team retiring his jersey, humbly downplaying any notion of personal accolades. His remarks came shortly after a playful comment about Dwyane Wade’s statue outside the Miami Heat’s arena. While the Bulls have yet to make a decision, Rose’s comments certainly show the former NBA star’s humble nature.

Derrick Rose does not want his statue honoring his legacy-enriched NBA career

Recently, former NBA star Dwyane Wade's statue was unveiled in Miami but didn't quite go as planned, with many joking about its resemblance to the Heat legend. Following the incident, Derrick Rose got some time to reflect on his own potential statue if the Chicago Bulls ever decides to honor the career of the former NBA star. While former teammate Taj Gibson believes Rose deserves a statue, Rose himself isn't interested. Recently, speaking with ESPN's Shams Charania at his pop-up flower shop (for one day) in Chicago on Thursday, Rose made it clear he does not want a statue of him.

"The statue, the way people been creating statues I do not want no statue. No statue. Jerry, no statue bro. Please, Michael, no statue,” Rose said.

The former MVP also shared his thoughts on the Bulls retiring his jersey. “The jersey retired, I would love that. That would be my way of getting close to the Top 75," Rose said.

Although the Chicago Bulls have yet to officially announce plans to retire Derrick Rose's jersey, the city has already honored him in its own way. In 2016, Michael Carter-Williams briefly wore No. 1, but fan backlash quickly led him to change it. The following year, Anthony Morrow faced similar reactions, apologizing online and switching his number. Since then, no player has worn No. 1 for the Bulls, signaling that, regardless of the team’s official decision, Rose’s legacy is already etched in the hearts of Chicago fans.

Rose also shared his thoughts on his hometown on Instagram sharing a series of photos of his pop-up flower shop on the platform. "We all know you don't have to prove nothing to anybody but yourself, but what if you grow up in an environment that you have to prove yourself in order to be considered great? Chicago is that place," Rose captioned.

"Yes, you don't have to prove s**t to anyone, but it's nothing like getting that head nod from an OG or that look when people see and feel that you're chasing greatness," he added.

Ahead of Saturday's highly anticipated game between the Bulls and the Knicks, the Bulls will honor Derrick Rose. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson declared Jan. 4 as Derrick Rose Day in the city with an official proclamation on Friday.
