The Dallas Wings are set to make history on June 27 when they take on Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever at the American Airlines Center (AAC), home of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks. For the past decade, the Wings have played at College Park Center in Arlington, a venue with a capacity of just over 6,000. However, their upcoming game against Caitlin Clark and company will take place at the 20,000-seat at the American Airlines Center. It will be a significant shift for the franchise. The recent move aligns with the Wings' long-term vision, as they plan to relocate next season to a renovated arena within the Dallas Convention Center, just two miles from AAC.“Having the best women’s basketball players on the planet playing in a world-class venue such as American Airlines Center is truly fitting,” said Wings CEO Greg Bibb.Bibb added, “Hosting this game at AAC provides our athletes with the well-deserved opportunity to be showcased in front of a record home crowd. Playing our first game in our future home city of Dallas offers our fans not only a new and unique opportunity to experience the WNBA but also enjoy a preview of what is to come.”
The special event, dubbed "A Night in Dallas," will feature three of the WNBA’s most recent No. 1 overall draft picks. The Wings hold the top pick in the upcoming 2024 draft, joining Clark (2024) and Indiana’s Aliyah Boston (2023) as marquee talents in the game.Clark, one of the most electrifying prospects in WNBA history, returns to AAC, where she led Iowa to an unforgettable Final Four victory over South Carolina in 2023. That game forged her status as a generational talent. However, her Hawkeyes fell short against LSU in the championship. Clark went on to lead Iowa to another national title game in 2024 before closing her collegiate career with a loss to South Carolina in Cleveland. Now, her WNBA tenure in the Fever will bring her back to the arena and fans are waiting for the potential high-octane showdown. Clark, along with Boston’s and the Wings’ upcoming top selection, makes this matchup one of the most exciting on the WNBA calendar. Also Read: Caitlin Clark makes inspiring commitment to Iowa's youth by donating 1000 booksAdditionally, it is fair to assume that the franchise’s decision to bring this game to a larger venue shows the rising demand for WNBA games, especially with superstars like Clark in the mix.The Wings will still host the Fever again on August 1 at their usual home in Arlington, but the June 27 matchup has been advertised to be a blast.
